Prevention Resource Center (PRC) Region 9

The PRC plays a vital role in enhancing community health and well-being by aligning regional efforts with shared objectives, focusing on risk and protective factors. As a trusted resource for substance use and behavioral health data, the PRC empowers stakeholders through skill-building support and training. It raises community awareness about the factors affecting substance use and broader social determinants of health. Additionally, the PRC fosters youth protection by promoting compliance with tobacco and nicotine laws through retailer education and monitoring. Together, these efforts create a safer, healthier, and more informed community.

PRC 9 Services

• Maintain and serve as the primary resource for substance use and related behavioral health stat for the region
• Coordinate the required prevention strategies across all System Agency-funded substance abuse prevention Grantees to ensure compliance with state regulations
• Strengthen compliance with existing laws on the sale of tobacco and nicotine products to minors through education and monitoring activities
• Increase community awareness about substance use and misuse through the dissemination of information across a wide variety of media outlets and distribution networks
• Build the prevention workforce capacity through technical support and coordination of prevention training

Regional Needs Assessment

The Regional Needs Assessment (RNA) report is created by each Prevention Resource Center (PRC) in the state of Texas, in conjunction with the Texas Department of State Health Services (HHSC), every year. The data compiled to produce this report is gathered to provide the state, agencies and organizations, and the community at-large with a comprehensive view of information about the trends, outcomes, and consequences associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use in the region. The methodology for this report was designed to enable PRCs, DSHS, and community stakeholders to engage in long-term strategic prevention planning based on current and prospective services relative to the needs of the communities in the state. The information compiled in the RNA is utilized to build a Regional data Repository, which is utilized as a regional asset throughout the state. View All Data
